The last project meeting

The end of the 2nd module of the trainee programme is getting closer and closer, which means loads of things to sort out, wrap up, pack in and finalize.
Leaving R&I – New Business
We have just finished our two days workshop with my colleagues who I have been working with for the last 6 months. I feel lucky, because I got a really good insight on the life and work in one of the most interesting departments of Telenor. If I have to describe R&I - New Business, I can simply say that it is the unit, where the per capita idea is probably the highest in the company. For those who don`t know too much about this unit I can use a good picture to describe it: New Business is an idea funnel. It works “simply”: you put thousands of ideas (even the weirdest ones) in this funnel and after 1-2 years you can see some of them falling out of the other end as new spin-off companies or products, services available to different markets. You might have heard about the success story of More or Telenor Cinclus. Once upon a time these companies were “born” inside this funnel.
The last project meeting
At the end of the meeting I left the room with mixed feelings. I really enjoyed to working on this project, which aims to find “alternative” answers on the challenges that a mobile operator can face on emerging markets. The main principle for all of the participants was: forget everything what you know about the traditional GSM network and business models and try to create something new, tailor-made to customers living in non-covered, developing areas. (This requirement was quite special for me, because first of all I had to learn a lot about the traditional operations to gain a basic knowledge what I could forget to fulfill the above mentioned principle…). So, I said good bye to my colleagues and the project as well, but I hope that I can see it again in 1-2 years, falling out of the idea funnel as a new success story of Telenor.
Ready for change
Welcome back…familiar feelings like half year ago. Packing, booking, good bye parties, rushing…I am starting to get used to this. So, let`s change!
