A couple of words from Hungary

By Niklas Lind
So, now I have spent a couple of months here in Budapest and life is, finally!?, starting to take on a routine.
Monday – Work and soccer with Sales guys
Tuesday – Work and training
Wednesday – Work and poker w. colleagues
Thursday – Work and training + eating out and the occasional beer(s) ![]()
Friday – Work + party
Saturday – Discovering Budapest + trying to avoid partying
Sunday – Recovery with Indian food
Monday – Here we go again…
Mundane, nah, Not as long as I win the soccer and the poker
Now, seeming as work is the most frequently recurring event in the above list lets get into that a little…
The Cave
I work in “The Cave”, that is how I and my boss refer to our workplace, also known as the Pannon Strategy Department office. It is a room containing two desks, a Swede (being me) and a Norwegian (being my boss). We tend to get involved in all kinds of things going on in Pannon which has been really interesting for me… After just 4 months here I would say I know quite a lot about the company and its’ strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I also work for the new business department which has been really fun. It has got me involved in partner management and sales within one of our most important future business areas. This has been heaps and heaps of fun! I believe that sales or an operational form of business development is what I want to do after the trainee program.
Awe-some food and Sweden vs. Hungary in soccer
Another recurring item in life here in Hungary is food. I was pleasantly surprised that the food culture was so well-developed here. Most weeks I eat out 3-5 times and so far I have had almost nothing but really good food combined with really nice local Hungarian wines. There is not only an abundance of good Hungarian food and wines, but also a range of very good international cuisine from Italian, to Argentinian to Indian. For anyone who has an interest in food, Hungary is a must sometime in life!
On an ending note, Sweden is playing Hungary in the soccer world cup qualifications this Wednesday! I think everyone out there will understand the magnitude of such a game for me and my colleagues…With two months left here, a loss would mean two months of mockery from my Hungarian colleagues, a win would mean the same for them from me
I am already nervous…
