Sziget Festival and Family Visit

Hungarian music rocks!!!
After having waited for four months, the Sziget Festival finally took place a couple of weeks ago. For those of you not familiar with this festival it is by far the largest music event in Hungary with its 60.000-100.000 daily visitors. Luckily for me several of my favorite bands were on the program, and at last I would be able to see R.E.M perform live (my all-time favorite band).

Festival on an island

Arriving the festival area which is located on an island (Sziget actually also means “island” in English) around noon, we had plenty of time to enjoy other concerts before R.E.M went on stage in the evening. For those of you not familiar with Roisin Murphy (UK) or Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra (Hungarian) you should note that these bands are a must to experience live if they ever show up on stage somewhere near. Especially the Hungarian band was amazing! Finally after a long day is was time for R.E.M to enter the stage. I have been told later that others thought the concert was a bit disappointing (ok, they did play some not that well known songs), surprisingly I do not agree at all!:-)

Ps: For those of you that enjoy a quite sleep, clean toilets and a long shower in the morning – DO NOT CONSIDER ever camping on a festival area!:-)

Family visit
As the festival ended my family came down for a visit and I could finally be a guide in my “own” town. Although I had to work during the weekdays I still think they had a great time. At least they got to see the main attractions, and since it was a big national holiday here during that week they even got to experience some fantastic fireworks along with several hundred thousand spectators along the Danube River.

I hope all of you are doing well.

Ps. I do not do guided tours in my spare time:-)

Guess what Marius? I’m checking out R.E.M too this Sunday in Stockholm! No camping on festival areas required tho…and I think I’m missing out the fun. :p You gotta get me to those Hungarian gigs dude!
