In The Thick of It

Half way through my post at DiGi and things are really getting interesting. In the past three months I’ve experienced a new culture, got to know new team mates at a new company, and dove head first into the Malaysian telecommunications industry. Now it’s time to put that all together.
After a concept development vetting process I have taken the lead on one promising idea and have been developing it to see if it is right for DiGi to pursue. Over the past few weeks I have been studying Malaysia’s economic profile, the market opportunities and our competitors, fine tuning this potential new service and finding a profitable niche.
It’s exciting working on new services that have never been offered before in Malaysia. That said, I’m a bit nervous about the presentation that I have to give to management in a week. My analysis of the data collected through research and surveys will determine whether or not we proceed to bring this new service to market. Luckily the collaborative environment at DiGi makes this daunting task manageable. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Concept Development to Team Development

Our department recently returned from a team building exercise on Pangkor Island. Secluded by a 40 minute ferry ride off Malaysia’s west coast, I bonded with colleagues though friendly competitions, pool games and beach barbecues. This was one of two outings that the “Commercial and Strategy” group go on each year and one of the many opportunities that I have had to get to know my colleagues outside of work. Case in point: DiGi’s reenactment of Euro 2008. Unfortunately our team, “Germany”, never made it to the finals.
Cultural Getaway
Taking a break from white sands and turquoise waters, I ventured south to discover the historic port city of Melaka. Because of its strategic location, centuries of visitors, traders, and conquerors have come and gone leaving their mark. These marks are best expressed in the architecture and in the food, which can be seen, tasted, and smelled throughout Chinatown and the city center. You can go by foot but I recommend the trishaw. They are fun, colorful, and blast the latest pop music. They are also plastered with DiGi advertisements!
