About teambuilding and seasons

The teambuilding outing with the Marketing and Strategy department exceeded my expectations so far. We went to a beautiful island called Pangkor, some four hours drive north of Kuala Lumpur. We were about 150 people altogether, and for me and the other new employees in the division it was a great way to get to know more of our colleagues outside the office environment.
Getting out of the office
Working in the same office for three months now, you get to know a lot of people in the working setting. However, in two days on a teambuilding session I think I got much closer to many of my colleagues than I would have in the next three months in the office. We had a couple of good professional sessions and loads of really funny games in the more informal sessions. The whole group was divided into teams before we left KL, and the teams fought each other in several activities on the beach and in the pool (!). To me, it was a very exotic experience. Being a big fan of the beach I think having the teambuilding on the beach was a perfect idea.

Beach and palm trees
To me, white beach, blue water and palm trees are ingredients in a perfect place. All of which you can find on many of the Islands around Malaysia. As you can imagine, travelling around is one of my favorite weekend activity. So far, I have seen Langawi Island, Besar Island, Tioman Island and now, Pangkor Island. And I have been told that there is so much more to see. It feels like time is passing by much to fast these days.

Seasons
Just one final comment about living close to the equator; I find the lack of seasons quite strange. Back home in Norway, seasons somehow helps me be aware of time, and that time passes. Here, there is more or less only one season, warm and humid. So to me it feels a bit like time has stopped. I have had summer for more than three months now, and it looks like it’s going to be summer for at least another three months… ![]()
