Ha, there you are, you naughty hat…….

Hi, it’s great to be wearing the “writing hat” again. Thanks to the “hat” I’m extremely late in my blog posting:). That’s the hard part of writing it has to be on the right day, time and place with the right mood with vibrantly colored “hat” otherwise I just end up staring at the screen!  Hmmm…… I sound more like a world renowned author, come to think of it  I should seriously look into the possibility of writing the next Hollywood blockbuster, have my own legion of fans, get listed as one of the richest women alive and go shopping without a care in the world…….. that’s so great, the perfect life. I could really get carried away with this. But anyway “my shopping spree” has got to wait well at least perhaps for another 6 MONTHS.

Yikes…… look at me instead of talking about my current task in Telenor. I had “transported” myself into another dimension:) Its time to get serious, really serious!

3 weeks back………..

KLM 1141 to Amsterdam……

I was busy buying things till the last day in Kuala Lumpur which was on the 29th of March. My list of things never seems to end! My flight to Oslo was via Amsterdam and I was totally excited at the prospect of working in Oslo, having been to Norway a couple of times before I had no fear of being in a foreign country alone. I had a pleasant journey to Oslo except that I had to make a good use of my long legs to catch the flight to Oslo at Schipol Airport as my flight from KL was slightly late!

Right guys, lets get down to work! Now who knows what Sarbanes Oxley Act is any guesses? No volunteers, well then I guess I’ll just enlighten you guys.

Sarbanes Oxley Act…..Whoa what’s that????

Sarbanes Oxley Act or SOX is a U.S law enacted to prevent financial irregularities from occurring in the wake of Enron’s collapse. As Telenor was previously listed in the U.S stock exchange, compliance to SOX was a necessity. The result of SOX implementation has been extremely successful in minimizing operational and financial risk that compliance to SOX has been maintained and upgraded even though Telenor has been de-listed from the U.S stock exchange some time back.

Still wondering what this got to do with me? Well, I am currently posted to the Group Internal Control(GICO) in Telenor. That’s right; I’m in Norway now and enjoying every moment of my time in Oslo. The work as well, of course! Great colleagues too! What more can I ask for!

Initially, my reaction was like the title page above and on my first day I was given a 225 page “bible” to help me understand SOX better. The “bible was of great help and I have been in GICO for three weeks now.

What do I think of SOX?

I find it both interesting and challenging to be in this environment since I have no previous experience of anything other than marketing.  It can be slightly frustrating at times during meetings when I could not make the head and tail of the conversation between my colleagues but that’s to be expected in any new environment. I’m looking forward to beyond my current three weeks with GICO.

‘Hat’ where are you going now?

I see that my colorful ‘hat’ is slowly trying to make its escape! So that’s all from me in Oslo, till I find my about to be lost ‘hat’ again!

Before I go off, I would like you guys to know that any enquiries about SOX are always welcomed and looked forward to! :)

Med vennlig hilsen, (Best Regards)
Mala
