Retrospective Reflections

By Nicole Ch'ng
Hello again readers! How are you? I hope that you are in the best of health. In response to David’s comment, I am going to do some retrospective reflections on how this extraordinary journey started for a girl from a small town in Malaysia
When it all started
When I first applied for the Telenor Global Trainee Program, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. To begin with, the tests were not easy. They were followed by interviews and assessments which were extremely challenging. On top of that, we had to compete with candidates from not only our own country but also from all over the world, whom all have high qualifications and wide knowledge. Just the tone of the confidence in their voices can send shivers down my spine! In times like these, the best one can do is to believe in oneself. No encouragement comes stronger than from within yourself.
First Impression
My first observation of the Headquarters office in Fornebu was its wheel-chair friendly facilities. Telenor has instilled its values in-house. This, in my humble opinion, is truly an example of charity begins at home.
Ups and Downs
Of course, my first 6 months is not all a bed of roses. There were times I were at my lowest point. You may have read about some of the frustrations I faced. But I must remind you that there were also good times at work where I wished it lasted longer. The up and down times yo-yo. As the saying goes, “hope for the best but be prepared for the worst”. What is apparent about the Program is that it is not designed to make it easy for any of us trainees. We have to step out of our comfort zones, stretch our limits and ultimately, develop ourselves into responsible persons, both professionally and personally. Moving abroad for example, is already the first big hurdle I had to tackle even before actually starting work.
