The day of your life

Original team building in Broadcast

Following frequent meetings involving café lattes and female conspiracy throughout autumn 2007, the mission The day of your life was ready to be launched. Our team spirit and creativity were to be put to the test in a combined Christmas party and bonding event!

The male team members exchanged nervous looks as their female counterparts escorted them to the waiting taxi at Fornebu. Instructed to bring warm, water proof clothing, torches, large backpacks, but also tight jeans, casual shirts, and blazers in true 1980s’ style, it is safe to say that the confusion was total. The day of our lives could begin!

A dance studio and Maria Sandvik, who taught Tshawe Baqwa to dance in the Norwegian version of Strictly Come Dancing, were our first pit stop. First prize in the national competition aside, would the renowned dance teacher be able to manage a team of two left-footed people? After an hour instruction of how to throw our boss in the air while singing, we were ready to hit the recording studio. A highly original music video of Living on a Prayer was recorded outside in -5 degrees!

The wigs and costumes we adorned during this moving rendition were soon replaced by hiking gear.

Team in the snow

We made our way to a cozy cottage in the woods in the midst of a heavy snow fall.

I forgot to mention that we somehow managed to leave a team member behind at the recording studio… You knew the story was too perfect!

The role as a trainee

When children are asked what they would like to do when they grow up, frequent answers include being a rock star or a professional football player. I experienced a similar feeling of having all options open when I joined Telenor as a trainee. Telenor employs trainees with a multitude of backgrounds, the core requirements do not include knowledge of the field of work, but a positive outlook, high ambitions and an eagerness to learn. With my background in politics and international diplomacy, this was good news!

Personal and technical development in Telenor Broadcast

A backbone in the Telenor traineeship is a steep learning curve, and emphasis is put on personal development in terms of leadership skills and cooperative abilities. Telenor offers rich opportunities to reveal your hidden potential and, conversely, the chance to identify which areas should be left dormant. At the same time that Telenor fosters our personal development; our technical development is full steam ahead. If I was to highlight a few concrete experiences to date, I would clearly list the introduction to the development of a business case and model for a new service, as well as the chance of getting to know the culture and norms of Telenor. However, above all I would underline my time with the business development team in Broadcast, which has given me the necessary confidence and enthusiasm to be able to take on new and challenging tasks in the future – of which I know there will be plenty.
